The Personal Side of Maya
If we are to work together, it is important that there is a strong and authentic fit. This profile is intended to give board members and recruiters a genuine sense of who I am, how I lead, and how I engage within a community.
Leadership is what I do. Relationships, service, and presence are how I live. Outside of work, I stay active and grounded through camping and other outdoor activities, singing, and showing up for the moments that matter, including sports games and student performances. I am a mother, a mentor, and someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people, whether in a small town, a large city, or anywhere in between. I believe strong leadership is built on trust, visibility, and care for people, and I value communities where those qualities are both shared and lived every day.
My why
Helping communities thrive
My why is helping communities thrive. I am motivated by service, belonging, and excellence. I build organizations that are sturdy, mission-driven, and genuinely good for the people they serve. I believe leadership is stewardship. You take care of what matters, you invest in people, and you leave things better than you found them.
Partnership is part of my why because communities improve when schools, organizations, and families work together with consistency and care.
Motherhood
My daughters
I have two wonderful daughters who are good people, and I am proud of them. I am proud that they both have a heart for people and that they are doing great things in service to others.
Why partnership matters to me
I credit a lot of my daughter’s growth and success to the partnerships of schools, churches, and organizations that kept them engaged. When schools, community organizations, and caring adults work together, young people feel supported, seen, included, and capable. That belief is deeply personal for me, and it shapes how I show up as a leader.
